FAQs

Chocolate Questions

Should I refrigerate my chocolate?

It is not necessary to refrigerate chocolate. Refrigerating chocolate can not only cause sugar bloom (when moisture collects on the surface and draws out sugar causing discoloration) it can also alter the texture and absorb odors and flavors from within your refrigerator. We suggest storing your chocolate in a cool dark place, ideally between 65-70F.

How long does your chocolate last?

Every product we sell has an Enjoy By date on the back.
Bars are approximately 8-12 months.
Sea Salt Caramel bonbons are 5 months.
Signature Collection is approximately 1 month.
Nut Collection is approximately 2 months.

We highly recommend enjoying your chocolates within the first two weeks for optimum freshness.

What allergens are handled in your kitchen?

We are unable to isolate allergen ingredients at the moment. Please be aware that our kitchen handles peanuts, tree nuts, milk, soy, egg and wheat. All physical products are labeled with allergens and are also noted on each product description page.

Where do you source your ingredients?

Being located in Northern California, we try our best to source as many ingredients locally as possible. Our chocolate is from Guittard Chocolate Company located near San Francisco. All fruit and nut fillings are made from fresh ingredients purchased from local farmers. The color pigment used to color the cocoa butter is all derived from natural ingredients. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions regarding what goes in our chocolates!

Shipping Questions

Why can I not ship outside of California?

Currently we are operating out of a home kitchen in California and our cottage food laws states that all sales and deliveries must be made within California.  We hope to open a retail location soon and once that happens we will be able to ship nation wide.

When will my order ship?

We try our best to ship within 24 hours of receiving your order. If that is not possible for whatever reason, we will contact you to let you know when to expect your order. Should your order be placed after 4:00pm Friday it will not be posted until the following Monday morning to avoid your package sitting in a warm sorting facility.

What if my chocolate melts?

We always take all precautions to make sure your chocolate leaves our facility and arrives at your destination in pristine condition. When temperatures are above 70F we will add an ice pack to your order as well as only accept 1 day delivery. Pick up and delivery options will also become available within the Roseville/Rocklin CA area. Please be cautious of delivery drivers leaving your packages in direct sunlight or in warm mail boxes. If you have any shipping questions, concerns, or would like help choosing a shipping option please reach out to admin@ashtonchocolates.com

Do you have a retail location?
